"Over
the past several years we've wrestled at all levels of this company
with the question of what we are and what we want to be. Out of these
discussions, and through our experiences, we've agreed upon a set
of values (including teamwork) we believe will take this company forward,
rapidly... In our view, leaders, whether on the shop floor or in the
executive suite, can be characterized in at least four ways:
One who delivers on commitments-financial and
other wise-and
shares our values, builds teams. His
or her future is an easy call-Onward and upward.
One, who does not
meet commitments, does not share our values, and avoids teamwork.
Not a pleasant call, but equally easy.
One who misses
commitments but shares our values, and embraces teamwork. He
or she usually gets a second chance, preferably in a different environment.
Finally, one of
the most difficult to deal with, is one who delivers on commitments,
makes all the numbers, but doesn't share our values, and actively
discourages teamwork. This is one who typically forces performance
out of people rather than inspiring and rewarding them. They have
to change-recognizing how difficult that can be-or we part company
with them if they cannot.
In short, we are determined that the future
of our company is based on meeting our business objectives through
the mutual trust and respect of teamwork."
